Who I Am Connected To

The people I chose to follow will help me to stay on top of the current issues in JCPS, as well as, keep me updated on important resources in education. These people and their insights fit well into my PLAN. I want to be able to start a PLC on Edmodo. My favorites on Twitter will be an excellent resource for me when coming up with topics, questions, or resources to share and reflect on.
I've never been on twitter before, but I love it already. I'm looking forward to getting it up and going with several teachers at my school to analyze the benefits it will bring to Goldsmith, especially in the area of vertical team collaboration.

The first article better explained the meaning of microblogging for me. This real-time interaction between users is very powerful. Twitter can be used to communicate, ask questions, and offer and receive support and advice. In terms of helping the staff at goldsmith that I work with, Twitter is an excellent means of allowing private teachers to express their questions and responses in a more secure environment. Just as the article expresses the means by which quiet students are able to better process, reflect, and question.

Article 2 brought to light the significance that Twitter usage places on metacognition. This is a difficult learning strategy to teach. Allowing students to think about and reflect on their learning in a safe, engaging environment gives them consistent practice on developing this skill. Use of Twitter promotes active learning strategies and engages students throughout a lesson. I think that this same logic applies for teachers. The intensitys of the job fosters little time for genuine reflection opportunities.

The powerpoint presentation is an excellent resource to share with teachers on the importance of, and the way to set up their own Twitter accounts. It also offers "New to Twitter" users ideas on who to follow for education. I found this presentation very useful as a reference material for my future Twitter use. I plan to use it with my staff to get a group started asap!
